Open banking providers in Europe (AISP / PISP)
40 verified European providers, ranked European-origin first (28 EU/EEA-origin). PSD2 account access and payment initiation. Compare by EEA data residency, licence and regulator - each verified at source.
Open banking providers turn PSD2 access into products: account information (AIS) for data, payment initiation (PIS) for bank-to-bank payments - the quiet European rail that bypasses card schemes entirely. Licensing is lighter here (PI authorisation, or AISP registration for data-only), and the scope badges on each profile - AIS, PIS, VRP - say what a provider may actually do. Adjacent and increasingly mandatory: Verification of Payee, the SEPA name-check that open-banking rails now feed.

FAQ
What are AIS and PIS?
AIS reads account data (aggregation); PIS initiates payments from the user's bank account (pay-by-bank). Both are PSD2-regulated. Fintechnologica lists 40 verified open-banking providers (28 European-origin), with AIS/PIS/VRP scope flagged per provider.
Is pay-by-bank a real alternative to cards in Europe?
Increasingly yes: A2A payments settle instantly, cost less than card fees and bypass Visa/Mastercard entirely - the strongest sovereignty play in payments. Conversion depends on market: mature in NL/PL/Nordics, growing elsewhere via Wero and instant SEPA.
