Open data
Two datasets, free to download and free to cite. The European fintech licence index is our rebuild of the official EBA, ESMA and FCA registers into one file (2,654 entities). The verified provider index is a narrow extract of this catalogue: 541 companies with their origin, country, EEA data residency, licence class and categories. Both are regenerated with the site, so the files you download are the data the pages are built from.
The files
| File | What is in it | Source and as-of |
|---|---|---|
| european-fintech-licence-register.csv | 2,654 licensed entities across the EEA and the UK: payment institutions, e-money institutions, account information service providers and MiCA crypto-asset service providers. Columns: name, legal name, country, regulator, register, authorised services, passporting reach and countries, LEI or national reference code, website, authorisation date, status, source, as-of date, and the slug of our verified profile where one exists. | EBA PSD2 register (as of 2026-09-18), ESMA MiCA register (2026-09-18), FCA register (2026-09-18) |
| fintechnologica-verified-providers.csv | 541 providers we verified at source. Columns: name, origin, country, EEA data residency, licence type, product categories, one-word status, the date we last verified the entry, and the URL of its profile. Deliberately without our research notes, capability columns and risk write-ups - those stay on the pages. | Fintechnologica catalogue, each row carrying its own verification date |
Both files are UTF-8, comma-separated, with a header row.
Licence and how to cite
These two files are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: use them commercially or not, reshape them, redistribute them - just credit the source and link back. The rest of the site (profiles, verification notes, capability data, risk flags) stays under our terms.

What the data is and is not
- The register file is a compilation, not an authority. ESMA states that its interim MiCA register has no legal significance; the home regulator's own register is the authority. Use ours to find and compare, then confirm the entity at its regulator.
- A row is evidence, not a conclusion. Being licensed is not being vetted: entities under withdrawal, in wind-down or simply dormant can sit in a register for months. Where we know more, it is in the Radar and the provider profile.
- The two files use different standards of proof. The register is machine-read from official sources. The provider index is hand-verified: a person read the provider's own pages and the regulator's entry, and dated it. That is why the same company can appear in both, and why the provider file carries a verification date per row.
- Identifiers move. National reference codes get renumbered and entities get renamed; we reconcile snapshots rather than regenerate the file, so cross-links survive. Join on our slug where you can, not on a name.
Using it
The same data drives the filterable licence index and the provider catalogue, and machine-readable summaries live at llms.txt and llms-full.txt. If you are researching or writing about European fintech infrastructure and need a cut we do not publish, or want to check a finding before you publish it, get in touch - we would rather correct something than see it repeated. Our method is in how we verify.
FAQ
Can I use this data commercially?
Yes. The two files published on the open-data page are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: use them commercially or not, reshape and redistribute them, as long as you credit Fintechnologica and link back. The rest of the site - profiles, verification notes, capability data and risk flags - stays under our terms.
How current is the licence register file?
It is regenerated with the site and each row carries the as-of date of the source register it came from. We re-pull the EBA, ESMA and FCA registers roughly monthly and reconcile rather than regenerate, so cross-links to verified profiles survive a refresh.
Why does the provider file have no notes column?
The research write-ups, capability columns and risk flags are the work the catalogue exists for, and they need their context on the page. The extract carries the facts that make the dataset joinable - name, origin, country, EEA residency, licence class, categories, status and the verification date - plus a link to the full profile.
