CASP (MiCA)
A crypto-asset service provider authorised under the EU MiCA regulation for custody, exchange or transfer of crypto-assets - mandatory for serving EU clients from 1 July 2026.
MiCA replaced the national-registration patchwork with one EU licence: the CASP. Authorised by a national regulator, listed in the ESMA register, passportable EEA-wide. 244 CASPs existed as of mid-2026, clustered in Germany, Malta and Cyprus.
MiCA also created the EMT (e-money token) for stablecoins - only credit institutions and EMIs may issue them, with redemption at par. That is what makes European euro stablecoins (EURCV, EURe, EUROe...) a supervised alternative to USDC/USDT.
